The annual Warwick Summer Games was held this year at the Jurong Sports and Recreation centre on the 25th of August. Sorry easties! This event saw the Singaporean students of universities all over the United Kingdom gather together for a day of sports and games, ranging from Ultimate Frisbee to Monopoly deal. It was not only a great opportunity to play together with your new-found friends, but also a chance to meet other peers who would be embarking on the same journey towards their first year in the UK.

Sending in teams for Captain's ball, 5-a-side and basketball, freshers and seniors from Notts (and Leicester) alike were out for another day of fun and friendly competition. Hoping to win the 1st place in captain's ball once again, our team was invigorated with fire and burning with passion. Well in my eyes, anyway. The team faced no obstacle against UCL and Exeter, but going against King's College 1.9m-tall average team proved to be difficult. A 2 win and 1 loss in the group stages qualified us for the semi-finals. With our eyes on the prize and determined to give it our all, we went to have a relaxing lunch and await our next match - only to find out that due to time constraints, our match was no longer needed. As such, our road to victory ended on a premature end.

Back over at the football side, things were heating up on the pitch. After losses against previous opponents, both sides were out for blood. Literally. After repeated unspirited plays made on the ball from the team of our dear King's College, one particular questionable tackle in a 1v1 up against Year 1 Nirmal ended up with an unfriendly connection between tibia and stud. Another player was added to the list of casualties on that day, and our football team had to stop playing. Another reason to start playing Ultimate Frisbee. :p

Over on the basketball court, the Nottingham team had a decent showing in the group stages coming in third after victories against Manchester-Leeds and Imperial College London. We were ultimately eliminated by UCL in our journey for the championship and was left to contest for the 3rd/4th places against Imperial College London. Despite trailing for most of the game, as dramatic as it gets, a valiant effort and late rally saw us tie the game up at full time and we're headed into overtime. In a thrilling 1st to three points contest, we conceded the first point due to a defensive lapse only to take 2 consecutive points back. It is now a one possession game that could go either ways and the athletes were pushing themselves beyond their limits to seal the game. Unfortunately for our basketball team, Imperial's basketball team rose to the occasion with a game ending 3. As summarized by sharp shooter and second year student Elvin "The basketball games were akin to a roller coaster ride, we had our highs and lows. Going forward, we must improve on our consistency and make our shots count." Despite the great team effort, this showing will haunt and motivate our players for Nottingham Winter Games, back at home ground.

All in all, a big thanks is in order for all those who came down to play and support. Freshers: you guys are awesome, keep up the enthusiastic spirit! Seniors: hope you guys will continue to put in the same energy and participation despite your hectic schedules! Now that WSG is out of the way, all roads are paved towards the next major event: our one and only Nottingham Winter Games! Promised to be bigger and better (no hard feelings Warwick), it's sure to be a day to remember. Stay tuned for future updates and get hyped!!
