Nottingham Singapore Society held its annual Freshers’ Orientation Camp from 13th to 15th August 2018. The camp was a chance for freshers to get to know each other, their seniors and integrate into the society as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives. Over three days, the freshers bonded with one another and the seniors over food, games and some drinks.
This year’s camp was made to be competitive. The freshers were split into 2 clans at the start of the camp - Zeus and Poseidon, spearheaded by Rachel and Hans respectively. After our ice breaker session, the scene was set to slowly introduce the competitive nature of the camp as the clans battle for points over a series of stations such as relay games, competitive charades, flag designs and the finale water balloon war for ultimate glory. The freshers were enthusiastic, creative and hungry for victory. Despite the competitive nature of the camp, the freshers were eager to make new friends even if they were from the opposing team.
On the night of the 14th, we held our annual society dinner in Singapore with current students entering their second and third year. It was a great opportunity for the freshers to ask questions and to get to know all the seniors together despite having hectic schedules. Further integrating the freshers into the Nottingham Singapore Society Family. To end the dinner, the seniors were also given a chance to vote on the best flag and best dressed clans.
On the morning of the 15th, we were proud to bring the camp to an end and various awards were given out. The best clan award went to Poseidon and the best campers from each clan were awarded to Hui Li and Ashley! It was a difficult decision as it was a great effort from both clans and all the campers!
As a whole, the camp was a hit among everyone who attended. It was all fun and laughter, we all made new friends and learnt new things.
A big thank you to all the freshers who came for the camp, to the committee and volunteers including those from the University of Leicester and to the seniors who came down for the dinner on the 14th. Nottingham Singapore Society would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to our community partner, Singapore Pools, for sponsoring our society shirt for AY18/19. We hope to see everyone again soon!
PS:/ To the freshers, what happens in FOC, stays in FOC. Till next time! :)
